Faculty highlight

Herman Aguinis, associate professor, received the University of Colorado at Denver’s 2004 Excellence in Research and Creative Activities Award. Aguinis’ research and publications in human resources offer employers numerous approaches to employee selection, diversity and the means to foster a healthy work environment

Aguinis focuses on three areas of research including social power and how managers use influence tactics, personnel selection, and research methodology in management.

Aguinis has found many researchers hypothesize interaction effects but don’t find them because of flaws in many methods used to measure and detect interactions. Human resource management is a relatively new science, and research methods used need to be improved. HR tools such as interviews and surveys are primitive compared to procedures used by other sciences. Aguinis’ research aims to balance those variables and make personnel selection more efficient and fair.

Aguinis received the 2003 Dean’s Scholar Award. He is editor-in-chief for the Academy of Management-sponsored journal, Organizational Research Methods.

In 2004 Aguinis was awarded the Mehalchin Term Professorship for outstanding work in teaching, research, and service.
